COMPLETE: Bexar County Heritage Center

The new Bexar Heritage Center had its Grand Opening recently after years of ideas, planning and construction! This 6,500 sf center located on the first floor of the historic Bexar County Courthouse in downtown San Antonio and is the brainchild of Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. The space was previously composed of three different office suites prior to a complete gut, down to the existing raw structure of the building. Our team was tasked with designing a finished shell and support spaces for over 25 interactive exhibits that aim to showcase the county’s 300 year history while also providing insight on the primary role the county plays within public safety and infrastructure projects. Each exhibit is very interactive and accessible, making the visitor experience more enjoyable to learn about. We worked closely with the exhibit designers and fabricators, Toxey/McMillan, throughout their design process to ensure code compliance and accessibility was maintained throughout the space. Exposed ductwork, track lighting, fire sprinkler lines and conduit all play a minor role in expanding the center’s educational aspirations. The design team included ESA Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, Jensen Hughes and Archillume Lighting Design. The general contractor was Marksmen General Contractors. The space is currently managed by the Bexar County Heritage Department and is open to the public during normal courthouse business hours. We would like to thank our friends at Bexar County for giving us the opportunity to be apart of this wonderful project and we hope it meets all their expectations.
