Power of Preservation Prom 2015
Happy rainy Friday everyone! Well, last night Lewis and David attended the fourth annual Power of Preservation Prom at the historic 100 year old Stinson Municipal Airport. The event brings business leaders, community activists, developers, city officials, architects and designers together for one night to celebrate the preservation efforts made within the city during the past year. The Power of Preservation Foundation (PoP), which was established in 2012, is a coalition of advocates, businesses, neighborhoods, and agencies interested in promoting the literal "power" of preservation in our community. This year, three honorees were recognized for their commitment to historic preservation. First, the St. Anthony Hotel was awarded this year's Outstanding Preservation Project Award. Second, archaeologist Susan Snow was awarded the Preservation Champion Award for her work with the San Antonio Missions that lead to the the World Heritage Site designation. And lastly, Virginia Van Steenberg was awarded the PoP Vision Award for her long history of dedication to historic preservation in San Antonio, including the relocation of the Fairmont Hotel and the restoration of the Majestic and Empire Theatres. In addition, the People's Choice Award went to the Pearl Brewhouse. Congratulations to all and we look forward to another great year of historic preservation projects in San Antonio! Proceeds raised by the PoP support the hands-on preservation programs of the Office of Historic Preservation.
