Thoughts
The Archdiocese of San Antonio had a vision to take an abandoned seminary campus adjacent to Mission Concepcion, and repurpose two buildings. One of the buildings, a mid-century cafeteria, was converted into a conference center with administration offices, while being rebranded as the Pope Francis Event Center. The other building, an formal chapel, was rehabilitated as a visitors center as the first stop on a new Archidocesan led tour of the World Heritage Missions, focusing on Catholic history. This new visitor center, now known as the Padre Margil Pilgrimage Center, features an interpretation space, cafe, and gift shop. In addition, a new courtyard between the buildings now provides additional outdoor gathering space and pathways, as well as better connectivity to the adjacent uses. .
