Thoughts

The Wickes House is a modest Craftsman-style residence in San Antonio’s historic King William neighborhood, thoughtfully renovated to accommodate a new generation of family living while preserving its historic character. The project reimagined the interior with a modern, open floor plan and a spacious primary bedroom suite on the first floor, improving functionality and long-term livability. A carefully designed second-story addition at the rear of the home provides two additional bedrooms and a shared bathroom, expanding the home while respecting its original architectural character. The renovation also focused on restoring the home’s Craftsman detailing by removing previous alterations and complementing the original exterior features. Energy efficiency was improved through the installation of new wood windows, foam insulation, and a reflective roofing system. A previously demolished detached garage was also reconstructed to complement the home’s historic style, completing a renovation that balances preservation, contemporary comfort, and sustainable performance.
