Thoughts

The 1894 Trautwein Building sits across a narrow street from the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum within the historic city of Cuero, TX. The two story masonry building is adjoined to a vacant one-story tire shop next door and an abandoned bakery structure in the rear. All three structures will be renovated to become an extension of the highly popular Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum by providing additional gallery space, a cafe, office space, multi-purpose gathering space, archive storage and various other support spaces. During the master planning phase, it was determined that an existing void on the side of the building would allow for a more contemporary, steel-framed main entrance to the complex. To support this new entrance and strengthen the complex’s connection to the existing museum, the design proposes to close down a portion of the intersecting street and transform the area into an additional public gathering space with sculptural art pieces and tree lined sidewalks that will allow for the return of outdoor cinema presentations throughout the year.
