Thoughts

Nestled within the historic King William Neighborhood, this 1868 cottage remains a great example of early Texas vernacular architecture. In 1868, brothers and stone masons Joseph and John Ball came from Elmendorf, Texas to San Antonio and built two matching houses on the property. However, in 1904 the home next door was remodeled into a two-story Victorian folk-style house, leaving this one-story cottage as the only surviving original home of the two brothers. The current owners commissioned Fisher Heck to help remodel the historic house by removing a non-contributing 1982, one-room rear addition and restoring most of the exterior shell of the house back to its 1860's roots. The interior rooms of the house will be reprogrammed to fit current needs including a brand new galley kitchen, large master suite and open cellar by way of a custom lapeyre stair built from a salvaged Pecan tree that was taken down in the back yard.
