Located on historic Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, home of the largest military medical training facility in the world, the IHG Army Hotels - Sam Houston House aims to offer the perfect retreat to  distinguished visitors. Built in 1886 as the first permanent hospital on the post, the dwelling evolved into a dental clinic, barracks, headquarters, bachelor officer quarters and finally a distinguished visitor quarters in 1951. It was named in honor of General and President of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston by General Order #42, 25 May 1961. Over time, the the building's finishes and systems have become outdated and inefficient. Upon completing as-found condition drawings, areas of repair and updating will be identified that will be period appropriate to the building, but also give visitors a more comfortable stay.
