Thoughts

Listed as one of 2016's most endangered places by Preservation Texas, this 1877 schoolhouse is believed to be the first school building in the city of Cuero, Texas. The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum recently purchased the property upon hearing that it was slated to be demolished. The museum moved the structure to a piece of land just behind their existing property until a permanent home was found. Fisher Heck is assisting the museum's board in documenting the building for a Historic Structures Report as well as developing a master plan for the building and its new site. The museum is currently researching avenues of funding for the restoration and rehabilitation of the historic schoolhouse.
