Thoughts
Charles Wurzbach, a prominent and prosperous San Antonio lawyer, retained architect James Murphy to design this two-story Victorian stone house for his growing family next door to his stepbrother, Gustav Uhl’s house and store. Originally constructed in 1876, the property functioned as a law office prior to being purchased by a local developer and environmental engineering company in 2019 as the site for their new headquarters. Over time, the property had fallen into disrepair and was not well maintained or renovated properly to accommodate a commercial business. We worked with the new owners on a full renovation of property that would include retrofitting existing restrooms to be ADA compliant, a new metal roof that strategically removed existing integrated gutters, refinished woodwork & walls throughout, a new parking lot and security fence w/ sliding gate, as well as a new curved concrete ADA ramp up to the existing porch. New landscaping followed, bringing the whole property together as a fresh new asset to the surrounding community.
