Facts

Fisher Heck’s enduring stewardship of this landmark began in 1994, sparked by an emergency intervention after a structural corbel fell from one of the corner towers. What started as an urgent repair to the exterior masonry and signature clay tile roof evolved into a decade-long vision to preserve the only extant Mission Revival style county courthouse in Texas. With the support of the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program in 2002, the county embarked on a comprehensive restoration that sought to balance the building’s 1912 character with the rigorous demands of a modern judicial facility.

The core challenge of the project was the seamless integration of 21st-century technology and infrastructure without compromising the sensitive historic fabric. Beyond technical upgrades, the project also focused heavily on universal design. The result is a technologically advanced, barrier-free landmark that honors its unique architectural heritage while serving as a functional civic anchor for the community.
