Old San Antonio Loan and Trust Company Building
Individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this structure is unique to San Antonio. Narrow and relatively tall (six levels), it is one of the most urban buildings built during San Antonios late Victorian period. The building was built as a loan company and was associated with its neighbor, First National Bank. In recent years it has contained a mixture of offices, a retail business, and apartments.
The building will continue to be a mixed use structure. The basement level has been opened to the San Antonio River Walk and the street level will cater to locals as an upscale bar or retail outlet. The upper floor apartments will remain and unused floors will also be developed as apartments.
FisherHeck Architects master planned the reuse of the building with the owner to ensure a coordinated redevelopment. The exterior of the building has been restored and the basement has been finished out as an Irish pub. New utilities have been brought into the basement for distribution when the rest of the building is renovated. Fisher Heck coordinated with the Texas Historical Commission for certification of the rehabilitation that entitles the owner to the tax credits.
