A panoramic view over the bluff is revealed as one enters through the front hall
Looking back at the house from the pool terrace
| | Bluffview Residence San Antonio, Texas This hilltop home commands a spectacular view of the golf course below and city beyond, while nestling gently and unassumingly into the native terrain. With its horizontal lines and deep overhangs, reminiscent of the Prairie Style of architecture, the home’s design and layout focus all attention toward the expansive windows along the west wall, providing an unparalleled panorama of the multi-level terraces surrounding the pool.
The house, completed in 2000, has 5,500 sq. ft. of living space. Architectural and Landscape Features
The house was built in harmony with the landscape, leaving as many of the native plants and trees as possible and cutting into the side of the bluff to terrace down to the pool. Natural-looking materials were used for the home’s exterior, including burnished concrete masonry for columns and the exterior base, and synthetic stucco in a pale, warm gray shade. The roof is composed of synthetic purple slate, a durable and economical alternative to natural slate. Interior Highlights - Dramatic 12-ft coffered ceilings with cove lighting
- Black granite countertops in kitchen and laundry
- Walnut plank, 5 in. wide flooring throughout home
- Pipes under the master bath and master closet floors are connected to a recirculating water heater pump to keep floor tiles warm in winter
- Features such as wall niches showcase extensive collection of paintings and sculpture
- Floorplan designed for ease of entertaining
- Curved staircase adds interest against angled walls and ceiling in stairwell; staircase design adapted from a photograph the clients had seen in a magazine
- First floor hallway serves as gallery for artwork
Exterior Highlights
- Windowless first story on front
- Motorized shutters secure back of house
- Windows in back feature simple, square Mission-style lines
- Burnished concrete masonry units, not commonly used in residential construction, are polished pieces of concrete, ground to resemble terrazzo for columns and the exterior base
