IN PROGRESS: VIA Ingram Transit Center

We are excited to share a couple of renderings of one of our current projects on the boards - VIA Ingram Transit Center. The existing transit center is located on the west side of San Antonio, just off of Loop 410. The overall goal for the project is to improve the amenities at the aging facility and improve the bus circulation while highlighting VIA's commitment to sustainability. The most unique feature of this site is that backs up to the Leon Creek Greenway - a 13.5 mile stretch of paved and natural pathways that will soon be expanded by the city.

The design aims to extend the creek connection through landscaping around the existing building into a new "greenscape" area where arriving riders will arrive and depart. The new greenscape features multiple shaded seating areas connected by meandering pathways through drought-tolerant landscaping. This design not only creates a more pleasing visual experience for visitors, it captures runoff in a large rain garden, allowing rainwater to soak into the site rather than running off into adjacent streets. In addition to seating areas, dedicated spaces for playground and fitness circuit equipment are also provided to make it more family-friendly and fitness oriented with the creek greenway.

The remodeled building  will be more energy efficient and more welcoming to visitors. The new limestone vestibules help control the conditioned air inside the building/waiting area. The interior is receiving new finishes, lighting and furnishings throughout. The project is currently projected to be completed toward the end of 2016.
