Atascosa County Courthouse

The 1912 Atascosa County Courthouse is the only extant Mission Revival style county courthouse in Texas.

FisherHeck became involved with the courthouse in 1994 when a large stone corbel fell from one of the corner towers. Emergency repairs lead to the restoration of the exterior masonry and restored the clay tile roof.

In 1999, FisherHeck completed a master plan that allowed the county to qualify for the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Project. Funding of $2,800,000 was received in the first funding year. Construction of the restoration began in February of 2002, and was completed in June 2003.

The interior of the entire courthouse was renovated. A new electrical system was installed to serve the increased power needs and to provide adequate and appropriate lighting for the historic structure. A new chilled-water air conditioning system replaced the window units, that had served the building. A fire sprinkler system was installed to protect the occupants and its important contents. Inappropriate finishes were removed and major public spaces (mainly the corridors and courtrooms) were restored to the building's primary period of historic significance, 1925-1950. A new elevator was installed and the restrooms reconstructed to meet accessibility standards. Finally, the aluminum windows from the 1970s were replaced with appropriate wood windows.
